Pat Miller, PT, DPT, OCS
Originally from Maryland, Pat relocated to Birmingham in 2024. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Towson University in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science. During his undergraduate work, he participated in a research experience exploring the relationship between cardiovascular health, activity level, and sleep. He also earned the Senior Excellence in Exercise Science award, a testiment to his passion, knowledge, and dedication to his craft.
Pat subsequently went on to obtain his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2017. He worked in outpatient orthopedics for four years, obtaining his Board Certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) in 2020 before transitioning to work with patients in senior living facilities.
Pat has extensive experience in treating a wide variety of orthopedic patients, and he places an emphasis on understanding the many factors that may influence someone’s overall health and contribute to their presentation in the clinic. He has particular interest in treating the running population through a holistic and evidence-based approach. Pat is trained in Bloodflow Restriction Training through Owens Recovery Science. He regularly uses this technique in the clinic to enhance muscle strength during post-operative care and other conditions that limit loading.
In his practice, Pat emphasizes quality care, empathizes with his patients, and promotes independence and confidence with a clear, step-wise, goal-oriented approach. He is passionate about developing a partnership with individuals in his care and helping people return to the activities they love. He is driven by providing solutions and results that are based on each person’s individual goals. Pat’s clinical interests include understanding how peopleās environments, communities, and overall health can affect their PT outcomes, while providing efficient and effective assessment and treatment.
Pat is the head of the Education Committee for The Total Joint, leading our clinicians in monthly in-services and regularly providing updates on current research findings. He is passionate about informed clinical decision making and evidence-based conversations that are honest, straight forward, and patient-centered.
In his free time, Pat loves to spend quality time with his wife and daughter, as well as travel, hike, run, and lift weights.
