Max Sager, PT, DPT

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Max earned his undergraduate degree in Sociology from Birmingham Southern College. During his time at BSC, he was a member of the men’s soccer team, where he was exposed to the competitive and sometimes injury-plagued nature of collegiate athletics. This gave him first-hand experience with the rehab industry and the power it can have to help individuals regain their quality of life and return to their favorite activities.

Following his passion for helping others in the healthcare field, Max went on to complete his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at South College through their Knoxville campus. Following graduation, he completed further training in dry needling, earning his Certification in Dry Needling (Cert DN) through the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy in 2024.

Max is a member of the Education Committee at The Total Joint, helping coordinate monthly in-services and learning opportunities for our clinicians. His clinical interests include osteoporosis, chronic pain, and fatigue diagnoses such as long-COVID, lyme disease, and POTS.  He also enjoys working with post-operative recovery patients following orthopedic surgeries. In the clinic, Max enjoys getting to know his patients on a personal level so he can understand their goals and get them back to the activities they love. In his own words, Max says “I want my patients to know that I see them as a whole human being and all aspects of life that goes into that. I just want people to get back to doing what they love to do.”

In his free time, Max enjoys staying active and taking care of his cat, Gus. He loves playing soccer, hiking, and has a special interests in plants.
