Jimmy Dunn, PT, DPT
A Birmingham native, Jimmy attend the University of South Alabama, graduating with a degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2010. He then went on to complete his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree in 2013. During his time in the program, Jimmy participated in research on the effectiveness of boxing and other therapeutic activities in patients with Parkinson’s disease, information that he continues to use and adapt in the clinic today.
Furthering his education, Jimmy completed the rigorous PT Solutions Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program, preparing him to ultimately earning his Board Certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) in 2016. He is also trained in Dry Needling based upon the Integrative Dry Needling System, an approach utilitized by Dr. Yun-Tao Ma. During his time with PT Solutions, he became the Clinic Director of PT Solutions Acworth-East location in 2014 and served in that role until 2016, when he returned home to Birmingham.
Jimmy then transitioned to a role at Grandview Medical Center, where he helped develop the physical therapy program for their Center for Advanced Joint Care. This role allowed him to see thousands of patients as they transitioned through their total hip or total knee replacement surgery. As with anything in life, Jimmy saw that total joint replacements don’t always go as planned. For those cases that require extra care, Jimmy now has extensive experience in treating patients who have peri-prosthetic fractures, infections, or other post operative complications. After seeing the demand for total joint replacement continue to grow, and the desire of those undergoing the procedure to live more active lifestyles than ever, Jimmy decided to put his experience to work at The Total Joint.
Jimmy opened The Total Joint in 2022 after identifying a need for evidence-based, compassionate care in his own neighborhood of Crestwood. Since that time, he has overseen the growth of the Crestwood location, as well as the addition of the Homewood location. He now serves in a limited treatment capacity while overseeing growth, education, and mentorship of clinicians within the company.
Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his two daughters and extended family. He also enjoys golf, pickleball, and bike riding.
Jimmy does not currently accept new patients. Current clients should call or text (205) 201-4245 to schedule a follow-up appointment with him.
