Meet Our Physical Therapy Specialists
Jimmy Dunn, Owner
PT, DPT, OCS
Board Certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy
Jimmy graduated with his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013. He then continued his education with a rigorous Orthopedic Residency Program, ultimately earning his Board Certification in Orthopedics. He became a Clinic Director of PT Solutions Acworth-East Location in 2014 and served in that role until 2016, when he returned home to Birmingham. He then transitioned to a role at the newly opened Grandview Medical Center where he helped develop the physical therapy program for their Center for Advanced Joint Care. This role allowed him to see thousands of patients as they transitioned through their total hip or total knee replacement surgery. As with anything in life, total joint replacements don’t always go as planned. For those cases that require extra care, Jimmy has extensive experience in treating patients who have peri-prosthetic fractures, infections, or other post operative complications. After seeing the demand for total joint replacement continue to grow, and the desire of those undergoing the procedure to live more active lifestyles than ever, Jimmy decided to put his experience to work for you at The Total Joint.

Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to help you reach your goals.”

Learn About Our Treatment Philosophy
Whether beginning a wellness program for better running form or starting a course of physical therapy following a total knee replacement, our process begins with a comprehensive movement evaluation. Since nothing in your body works all by itself, and we understand that the movement system is more complicated that one body part, we take the time to look at how each joint interacts with the others. Once we understand your goals, we make a digestible and realistic plan of attack to meet them. We will provide evidence-based care utilizing our depth of experience to give you the best care possible. We offer one on one services because your time is too valuable to be wasted by a therapist who is trying to treat 3 people at once. We find creative solutions to barriers of care including flexible scheduling times, fair fees for services, and straightforward out of pocket options for those who need it.
We’re more than just a clinic—we’re your neighbors. Our team is proud to provide care right here in our community, serving the neighborhoods of Crestwood, Avondale, Forest Park, Homewood, and Mountain Brook, along with the surrounding Birmingham areas. Because we live and work here too, we understand the value of local connections and personalized care. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking to improve your movement, or focusing on overall wellness, we’re here to help you feel at home while reaching your goals.

Why Us
At The Total Joint, we know that your time is too valuable to waste. That’s why we are committed to providing you with one-on-one care with your physical therapist throughout your entire session. We know this leads to better listening, better connection, and better outcomes. You are important to us, and we want you to feel that way throughout your visit.
Your physical therapist should always be learning and applying new knowledge, and that is our commitment to you. We won’t settle for the status quo or the way it’s always been done. That’s why our PTs are dedicated to continued learning, constant improvement, and use of that knowledge in every treatment session.
Outcomes are better when you trust your physical therapist. That is why we are dedicated to getting to know you, learning about where you’ve been, and being a part of the plan for where you want to go. They are your goals, and we want to help you achieve them. We value your trust and aim to maintain the highest level of connection to get you the best outcome.
